Bayhealth Rehabilitation Services provide aquatic therapy at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus for effective rehabilitative treatment for a wide range of orthopedic and neurologic diagnoses, including knee and shoulder surgeries, back injuries, arthritis, stroke, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and many other conditions.
Aquatic Therapy Benefits
In water, the points of force are dispersed over a much greater area of the body so range of motion may increase and balance can improve. All aquatic therapy is low impact, reducing the stress on joints because the buoyancy of the water supports the body. Warm water often promotes relaxation and decreases pain in those with arthritic conditions or muscle spasms and increases muscle tone. Swelling may be reduced because the pressure from the water assists fluids to move from the extremities back to the trunk. Specific deep water activities can provide traction along the lumbar spine and therefore relieve pressure and possibly reduce radiating symptoms.
Aquatic Therapists Certified for Safety and Therapy Expertise
All aquatic therapists are lifeguard and CPR certified. Safety is our primary focus and our specialists carefully monitor time in the water, appropriate attire, emergency communications and recovery to standing abilities. Our aquatic therapy services can help improve:
